The Financial Peace University (FPU) program is a community- and faith-based curriculum that is designed to teach participants how to manage their money carefully, eliminate their debt, and save for the future.
No peer-reviewed publications evaluating the effectiveness of this program were located.
FPU is designed to help participants improve their finances. Lessons examine the following:
A Ramsey+ membership is required to access the FPU program, and membership includes a budgeting app, access to on-demand courses, a debt and savings tracker, and a financial coaching call.
FPU format options include in-person or virtual classes, a downloadable digital workbook, and online classes.
The FPU program began in 1994. FPU classes were first held for the military in 2001; the extent to which the FPU program is currently being used is unclear.
No training is required to implement this program. Individuals interested in hosting a course may purchase a Leader Membership, which includes materials for program implementation. For more information, please use details in the Contact section.
Considerations for implementing this program include acquiring participant buy-in and commitment, understanding that Christian-based bible verses and messages are presented, finding meeting space to hold classes that can accommodate 8 to 12 families, securing devices that can access the internet, and ensuring families who self-administer this program have access to the internet and suitable devices.
The Clearinghouse can help address these considerations. Please call 1-877-382-9185 or email Clearinghouse@psu.edu
